Special Moment: Nation One Academy Players Serve As Match Mascots in International Match

On September 9, 2018, our kids had a memorable experience at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex by serving as match mascots for the first time in an international football match. The match was a 2019 Africa Cup of Nation group stage qualifier between the Liberian national team, Lone Star and the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Done in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, this special moment was meant to expose our kids, letting them to experience first-hand such atmosphere and what it takes for a player to represent their country at the national and international scenes.

They were opportune to march onto the pitch with the Congolese national team that included a few European based players including Stoke City’s striker Benik Afobe. Afobe is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers. In 2010, he signed a professional contract with Arsenal and was loaned to various clubs including Huddersfield Town, Reading, Bolton Wanderers, Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday and Milton Keynes Dons before signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2015.

After marching onto the pitch with the Congolese team, the kids were later deployed around the field as ball boys.

This memorable moment couldn’t have been possible for our kids without the partnership work for the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
